Ryan’s journey with Food Forward began years ago as a volunteer harvesting persimmon trees. Born and raised in Los Angeles, she’s always been passionate about community engagement and service. Her early exposure to social inequality inspired her interest in public health. Ryan studied Global and Community Health and Environmental Studies at UC Santa Cruz, focusing on food systems and security. Outside of class, she gardened, volunteered, and cooked, fueling her passion for nutrition and food justice. Ryan’s dedication brought her back to Food Forward, from volunteer to employee. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, yoga, and spending time with her three pugs.
